Education program 2005-06
The Aquarium of San Sebastián has improved its educational program
for the 2005-2006 school year with new visits! Come and explore deeper
in the sea knowledge!
Choose from a number of options ranging from theme-based visits, to "a
la carte" tours, to the exceptional overnight experience "Sleep
among the Fish". Plus, we've put together all kinds of activities
to enjoy throughout the school year!!!
The programme is rounded out with a fun new activity for learning all
about the marine world.
This adventure, designed for kids 7 to 12, involves searching for 4 secret
clues hidden in an interactive movie, which they'll find online in Take
the Plunge and during guided tours of the Aquarium.
In order to play the game children have to pay close attention to win
a juicy prize. On this page group leaders and students will find the information
they need about each type of visit, along with a general overview of each
programme.

Visit options:
1. Self-guided visit:
Education programme not included
Price: 5 euro / person
This non-guided tour includes access to permanent and temporary exhibits
and a documentary film..
Group leaders will be provided in advance with a resource packet on the
specific exhibition so that they can prepare the materials and lead the
group during the visit. They will also be given a specific time for viewing
the film in the Aquarium Auditorium or Classroom (depending on scheduling).

2. Theme-based visits:
Visit + Documentary or comented proyection: 90 mins
There are 6 options:
• The aim is to familiarize students with the flora and fauna
of the Bay of Biscay, following the Aquarium's regular itinerary.
• The tour is available in Basque, Spanish, English, French and
German.
• Subject matter is adapted to grade level.
• 25-person maximum per guide. Available to more than one group
at a time. Check availability.
• Alter the visit, a documentary will be seen
or a proyection comented through a magnifying glass about the
microorganismus, like a kind of plankton, tiny eggs…
When you book, the option will be choiced.
• Thanks to this visit and being aware of how interesting a shark
can be, we are going to know better the sharks we have in our Cantabrian
sea but also the tropical sharks. Through their description, reproduction,
way of feeding, way of fishing… is going to be easier to get the
information we need.
• All of that is going to be real because of the four different
types of sharks we have at the Aqarium: nursehound, catfish, dogfish
and bull shark.
• Up to 6 years old students, the contents and words are depending
on the school year.
• A guide will manage with max. 25 students. More than one visit
can begin at the same time. Availability should be requested.

Overview.
• Thanks to this visit, we are going to examine the defence and
attack techniques, so that we can work the mechanism of the fishes to
keep on surviving in the sea.
• Using the fishes we can observe at the AQ, we will see these
techniques: mimicry, colouring, hiding or teeths, arms, claws, poisson…
• Up to 10 years old students, the contents and words are depending
on the school year.
• A guide will manage with max. 25 students. More than one visit
can begin at the same time. Availability should be requested.
• The tour is available in Basque, Spanish, English, French and
German.
• After the visit, a documentary will be seen

Overview.
4. The World of Invertebrates:
• A global vision of the invertebrates will be presented; its
classification (poríferos, celentéreos, equinodermos,
moluscos, anélidos, artrópodos), the characteristics of
the main species... The invertebrates we have at the Aquarium will be
observed, as the new aquariums, which are included in our route.
• Up to 6 years old students, the contents and words are depending
on the school year.
• A guide will manage with max. 25 students. More than one visit
can begin at the same time. Availability should be requested.

5. Our fishing: from the sea to the fishmonger´s
• On this visit the student will be able to know all the way
from the moment that the fish has been captured until it arrives to
the fishmonger´s. To describe this process, the guided visit will
begin at the museum observing the history of the hunting of the whale
of the 15th century, the different fishing techniques and the main species,
which are captured in our coast and the visit will continue with the
visit to our fishmarket, so that we can learn their working rules.

3. A la carte visits :
Price: 10 euro person
These visits can be customized to meet specific needs.
Teachers should contact the Education Team in order to design a specific
visit . A number of themes are possible, including water analysis, lab
techniques, etc.
Subject matter is adapted to grade level.
Group size will vary depending on focus. Available to more than one group
at a time. Check availability.
The tour is available in Basque, Spanish, English, French and German.

4. Sleep among the Fish :
Price: 40 euro / person
An incredible opportunity to see underwater sea life at night. Educational
activities are combined with the unforgettable experience of sleeping
in the Aquarium tunnel surrounded by fish.
For schoolchildren in their 4th and 5th year of Primary Education. 2 chaperones
per group.
20-person maximum per group. From 8:00pm to 8:00am.

5.
Joint visit to the Sea Palace of Biarritz and the Aquarium of San Sebastian.
:
Price: 11 - 40 euro / person
It is an unique opportunity to visit both Aquariums.
Thanks to the contents realized in team, both visits are complementary.
The payment will be made in the Aquarium you make the booking.
It is focused to students from 8 to 12 years old.
The visits could be in Basque, Spanish or French.
Options:
A) Guided visits to both Aquariums : 11€ per student. Maximum 25 people by group.
It is possible to book more than one group at the same time. Ask for availability. Both Aquariums could be visited the same day or in different days.
B) Visit to the Sea Palace of Biarritz and "Sleeping with fishes" in the Aquarium of San Sebastian ; you have the opportunity to visit de Biarritz Sea Palace and to sleep in the Aquarium of San Sebastian (educative program, dinner and breakfast, sleeping in the tunnel). The tariff is of 40€ per student and it is available on Thursdays or Fridays.
Maximum 15 people in the Sleeping with fishes program. Both Aquariums could be visited the same day or in different days.
